A compression method with a clear trade-off

Each page is rendered as JPEG and rebuilt into a PDF. Lower resolution and quality may save space but can reduce fine text, colour and detail.

This suits scans. Output text cannot be searched or selected; links and accessibility information are not preserved. Files are not guaranteed to shrink, and larger results are clearly labelled.

Good to know

  • One ordinary PDF up to 30 MB and 30 pages; output up to 60 MB.
  • Confirm that image-only pages are acceptable before processing. This is not lossless compression. Encrypted, form and signed files are unsupported.
